Review of the Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade Knife

You may have seen the Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade Knife in the aisle of your local sporting goods store. It’s not uncommon to see all kinds of different products sold with celebrity names attached to make them seem more appealing. That is not something you commonly see in the hunting and survival market, but the popularity of survival style TV shows may have changed that.

Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade Knife

One of the biggest, most recognizable names in the TV survival arena is Bear Grylls from Man vs. Wild, and he has teamed with Gerber to deliver his own line of survival blades that meet the their high standards in a tough market. Earlier we reviewed the Bear Grylls Ultimate Pro Survival Knife which performed quite well, today we’ll review the more compact Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade Knife with Slim Sheath. The name is a bit of a mouthful, but basically tells you exactly what it is, a blade wrapped with emergency paracord handle. But does it pass the test when used in the real world?

A Celebrity Knife That Survives The Cut

There is no denying that the Bear Grylls knife looks great. While most knives of this type tend to go with the menacing, basic black look, Gerber and Grylls have added splashed of orange to make this knife a little more aesthetically pleasing. Looks can only carry a tool so far, though, as it has to be able to do the job it has been designed for. The good news for those that like Mr. Grylls is that this is a knife that can definitely do the job, and which is more than just a pretty face.

The Compact Construction

Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade KnifeThe overall length of the knife comes in at 7.5-inches, with the blade making up 3.25-inches of that length. The weight of the knife is a touch under 6 ounces, with a good chunk of that weight attributed to the sheath. The actual knife itself comes in at a lightweight 3.5-ounces. The blade is constructed of 5Cr15MoV steel, and is rugged and sharp to the touch.

Grip is Always Important

What really sets this particular tool apart from all of the others, though, is the handle. One of the first things you notice when you look at it is that the handle is wrapped in bright orange cord. Rather than just being there for a unique look, the 45-inches of paracord can be removed and used for a number of survival tasks. We are not entirely sure how easy it would be to get that cord, or a replacement one for that matter, back on, but it’s definitely a clever little touch.

With a Slim Sheath

Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade Knife SheathThe slim sheath looks as good as the knife, with more splashes of orange used in the “BG” logo emblazoned on the front. The sheath is reversible so that you have the option of carrying the knife with the blade up, down, or horizontally, and it also comes with a belt loop that can be adjusted or removed to suit your own personal preference.

While some outdoors types will scoff and write this off as nothing more than a celebrity cash grab, the Bear Grylls Paracord Fixed Blade Knife with Slim Sheath actually delivers, and would be a good addition to any outdoor kit. The best part of it all is that the price is affordable for just about anyone, and it comes with a lifetime guarantee, just to sweeten the deal a little further.

  1. I don’t know man… even if the knife is used by the great Bear Grylls, that sheath won’t convince me..
